Corry student wins gold in academic competition

How many high-school students do you know that would get out of bed at 6 a.m. on a Saturday, get on a bus, and travel an hour to write essays, present a four-minute speech, sit through an interview, and take three to four tests?

Students who participate in the Academic Sports League do just that.

2024 Academic Decathlon

Sunnyside High School's Academic Decathlon coach, Adam vonBoltenstern, who was once a participant in the competition, brings a unique perspective to coaching, drawing on his own experience as a decathlete. Having taught calculus and geometry at Sunnyside for the past two years, he stepped up to lead the team when the school lacked one during the pandemic. Under his guidance, the team exceeded expectations this year, winning numerous medals and securing first place in their division, showcasing the impact of vonBoltenstern's coaching and the students' hard work.
